Starset, a ‘cinematic rock’ band from Ohio recently team up with Hard Rock/ Alternative Metal band Breaking Benjamin for a new single collaborative track, Waiting On The Sky To Change.
This song was originally composed by Downplay, a band Dustin Bates and Ron DeChant played in together before Starset was formed. The song then being co- wrote again by Bates and Jasen Rauch who is a Breaking Benjamin guitarist, so the single came up as collaboration from Starset and Breaking Benjamin.
This pairing between Starset and Breaking Benjamin follows a US tour they did together last spring. The single track that filled with sci- fi themes was released on Friday, 19 August via Judge & Jury with a space- faring video, just a few months after both bands toured with Seether and Lacey Sturm.
Starset is a unique band since they choose to make their genre that they called cinematic rock. It’s not rock or alternative and even metal, their ‘cinematic rock’ genre could be describe as electronic influenced alt-metal. Some fans mostly have rock, alternative or EDM/ Electronic music genre as their perspective.
Led by Dustin Bates as a front-man and PhD candidate, The band success their mission to take fans on a journey through music, video, AR-integrated performances, a Marvel graphic novel called “The Prox Transmission,” and online experiences, blurring the lines of science, fact and fiction.
Starset also have their own community that is became a fan base in Instagram, called “The Starset Society” Their post mostly about a day of science, fun- fact and some stuff that relates with Science. It’s obsession of science could see from every Lyrics that appear in their songs.
The third album of Starset, “Divisions,” provided the soundtrack for the graphic novel to the next chapter. It has illusive narrative, picturing dystopian future world divided by technology that has taken over in a war for human consciousness—those who obeying and implementing it and those who fighting against it.
The Starset Society left clues through a series of transmission of what will occure in the future. These have been seeded throughout the campaign for fans to find, to make them feel like they can become part of story itself in a search of knowledge and to reveal new music. Their latest full- length record, “Horizons,” came out on 22 Oct 2021 via Fearless Record.
As for Breaking Benjamin, they are no strangers to the someone who’s like rock/ alternative. Their gerne is quite similar with Starset. Some fans referring Starset as a new band based on Breaking Benjamin genre. But the unique aspect of Starset is not appearing in Breaking Benjamin’s song.
Fans of Starset always exited for the band’s collaboration because of the similarities or connection of their genre. Seeing Breaking Benjamin as an older band that gain their success since their song “The Diary of Jane” come out, Starset community who is consider as someone who have rock/ alt preference in enjoying music makes this collaboration become something that worth to waiting for.
